Loose Diamonds Are A Worthwhile Investment

By Bernard Klein

Many consumers who buy precious gemstones have become interested in loose diamonds. This is true in many instances, whether the person is obtaining the gems with which to make jewelry, or simply as a tangible investment item. Some stones should only be purchased from a reliable merchant.

When shopping for a diamond, the 4 Cs must be considered. This abbreviation refers to color, clarity, carat, and cut. These four aspects determine the quality of the gem. Familiarizing oneself with these aspects prior to making a purchase is wise.

The gem's cut and shape should not be confused with each other. A stone's shape refers to how it is fashioned, such as a rectangular shaped gem or one that is designed in the shape of a pear. The cut is a term that refers to the number of facets in the diamond. These directly affect the brilliance of the stone, the latter of which depends on light reflection.

The weight of the stone is determined by carats. However, the weight and the size of the gem are not always the same. Heavy stones are more expensive than light ones, which is not surprising. A person's budget will typically determine the number of carats he or she chooses.

Color refers to the amount of yellow tinge present in the stone. A colorless diamond is considered the most valuable. However, some individuals are willing to sacrifice the absence of color in the stone in order to save money. This decision is largely a matter of personal preference.

Clarity is the word used to define the presence or absence of flaws in the stone. The most valuable gems typically have no inclusions that can be observed without a magnifying glass. Again, however, numerous shoppers will select gems with minor flaws in order to secure a reduced price.

Loose diamonds are terrific investment, whether the purchaser is acquiring them as a tangible item to add to their investment portfolio, or to be placed in the setting and worn as jewelry. Gems of this kind rarely depreciate, and for this reason are considered a good option for investors. Those who purchase gems of this type are typically happy with their decision.
