The Eligibility Requirements For HUD Housing

By Charles Rogers

Not everyone is blessed with a decent abode that will keep him or her safe from harsh weather and criminals. The government founded the HUD housing project that is responsible for providing suitable houses for those citizens that are needy. The housing authority has built many houses that are supposed to be assigned to the elderly, the low-income earners and people with disabilities. To be eligible for this program, there are requirements set up by the officials. These conditions are set up to keep away those who would want to get free housing unlawfully.

The first thing that the officials want to see is the amount of money you earn monthly to see if you are really in need of housing support. The program is strictly aimed at helping low-income earners, which means that you have to earn below the minimum wage to be eligible for this facilities. Low-income earners are divided into three subgroups which are, the poor, very poor and extremely destitute. If the amount of money you make lies in any of the group, you can apply.

To be eligible for these privileges, you must define your family. You must define if your age, your physical state, your marital status and the number of people you live with in your home. This helps the housing department to evaluate whether you need the help or not.

To qualify for this program, you must provide the proof that you are a legal citizen of the country. This means that you have to show your identification card to the relevant authorities. Every member of your family must also be a citizen unless the constitution exempts some of them. This is done to keep away illegal immigrants who came into the country using devious means.

The family members should provide papers showing a proper social security number. The officials are very strict when it comes to checking whether you and all your family members have a social security number. The children should also have this number unless they are below the age of six years, and they had not been assigned this number since they were born.

For those who apply for housing in the country are provided with consent forms that they need to fill. The form shows necessary information showing your name, your details and the fact that you have agreed to receive these houses. The forms should be completed by every family member who is eighteen years and above. This is done so that if anything happens to the home you have been provided, and you will be held responsible.

People who have criminal records are out of luck because they are not allowed to apply for this facilities no matter how needy they are. The department carries out a thorough criminal background check to ensure that you and the members of your family have clean records. The department liaise with the police, sex offenders registry, and the federal bureau of investigation to determine if you are clean or not.

To qualify for this application, the family head must show that even if he or she is a productive citizen who works at least twenty hours on a weekly basis. They should not have any unresolved debts that are more than sixty percent of what they get monthly.
