Fredericksburg: Relocating To This Historic Texas Town

By Pammy McGrath

In general, Texas is the fastest growing state in the country, and the towns and cities of Texas Hill Country are definitely great areas to consider if you want to head to the Lone Star State. Fredericksburg is an excellent option for people who wish to move to Texas, and here are a few good reasons why.

Tourists flock to Fredericksburg for many reasons, and its historic charm is one of its biggest draws. The historic downtown, part of the National Register of Historic Places, is filled with wonderful examples of 19th-century architecture. If you wish to live in a historic Texas Hill Country home, there are usually some historic homes for sale in Fredericksburg.

Another reason to consider moving to Fredericksburg is that while it is a quiet, peaceful small town, it is only about an hour from the large metropolitan areas of San Antonio and Austin. So you can enjoy all the amenities that large cities have to offer without having to live in a bustling metro area yourself.

While it has less than 11,000 inhabitants, Fredericksburg still offers a wide assortment of interesting things to do. If you love the great outdoors, you can enjoy visits to Old Tunnel State Park and Enchanted Rock State Park, both of which are just outside of town. At Enchanted Rock State Park you can hike and backpack, enjoying vistas of unusual rock formations as well as native flora and fauna. Old Tunnel State Park is named after the railroad tunnel in the park. Now that the trains have stopped, the tunnel is home to thousands of bats from about May to October, and many people come every year to see these nocturnal creatures.

If you prefer cultural activities, live music and live theater abound in Fredericksburg and there are plenty of galleries and museums, including the Pioneer Museum and Vereins Kirche Museum. The town's most impressive museum is the vast National Museum of the Pacific War. Admission to this museum also includes admission to the Admiral Nimitz State Historic Site. Not only does this site honor the life of Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, commander of the Pacific fleet, it is located in the beautiful historic home built by his grandfather back in 1852.

Fredericksburg real estate also varies greatly, so you can easily find the specific type of home you want. The agents at Nixon Real Estate can help clients find modern single-family homes, historic Fredericksburg real estate for sale, ranch homes surrounded by large acreage or any type of Texas Hill Country real estate that you want.
